Frequently asked questions

Q

Can you keep my pet at your home?

I'm currently unable to provide this service.

Q

How long have you been in business?

Officially, I started in March 2012. But I've been taking care of other people's pets for over 10 years.

Q

I'd like to hire you. What do I do?

Step right up! I invite you to call or email me, whichever works better for you. I set up a home meeting at your convenience to get acquainted with you and your pets. I can answer any questions you may have, and you can show me all the ins and outs of your pets' daily routine. I take detailed notes on all your pets' information, as well as household information. You give me a copy of your house key, which I label with a number only. We write up a contract (in the case of petsitting), you sign some papers, and that's it! You can relax while at work or away knowing that your beloved pets are being cared for just as you would if you were home, and during each of my visits or walks with your adorable critters, you receive updates and impossibly cute photos!

Q

The kid on my block walks my dog for $5 a day. What gives?

Well I'm glad you asked! The difference between myself and the average neighborhood child is quite significant. I am a lifelong animal lover, and I believe in supporting the pet-human bond. I worked as a veterinary technician from 2002 through 2010. With on-the-job training and independent study, I took and passed the VTNE (veterinary technician national exam) to become a CVT (certified veterinary technician). I continue to learn independently and through continuing education about all aspects of pet health, from parasites and nutrition to behavior and adoption issues. I continue to volunteer at PAW Team (Portland Animal Welfare Team) http://pawteam.org/, which holds a monthly clinic to administer veterinary care to pets of people in poverty. Add all this together and I think you will find that as a responsible adult and veterinary professional, my rates are quite reasonable.

Q

How far in advance do I need to book you?

The safest bet is to book 2 weeks in advance (for trips). It really varies though, and even if it is last minute, I will do my best to accomodate your needs. For the times that fill up quickly, such as holidays and school breaks, the earlier the better.

Q

What species do you take care of?

Any and all! Feline, canine, reptile, avian, pocket pet, exotic...
